Thank-you for visiting the clinic today. Please read this information carefully and contact the clinic if you have any questions or concerns.

This aftercare advice is essential to help reduce the risk of treatment complications, improve your comfort, and help achieve the best possible results from treatment.

Aftercare Instructions

  • After the first application, you may notice that your skin feels tight.

  • Different levels of exfoliation may occur from very mild to obvious flaking. This usually begins on day three and again on day five following the peel.

  • Do not touch or tamper with the skin as it can increase chances of infection and/or scarring.

  • Use only a gentle cleanser and moisturiser should be used for the next 5-7 days. Do not use any actives 5-7 days before and after peel. We recommend the Mesoestetic Hydracream Fusion Cleanser and Mesoestetic Melan Recovery Balm for soothing.

  • It is recommended that strict sun protection be adhered to (sunscreen, hats, shade). Mineral make-up can be worn if desired.

  • It is also critical to refrain from any at-home treatments for your skin unless directed by your practitioner. Products with active ingredients should be avoided 5-7 days prior and for 5-7 days following treatment. Strict adherence to post treatment instructions as directed from your treating practitioner will ensure correct healing.

Avoid the following: Avoid sunlight exposure of the treated area to excessive sunlight or overuse of a sunlamp because your skin may be more prone to sunburn while you are having treatment. Practice the slip/slop/slap program. Strong wind and dry air can cause side effects such as excessive dryness and peeling. Apply moisturiser or Melan Recovery Balm if this occurs. Do not use any skin treatments, such as skin peels or medicated dressing on the same affected areas unless your practitioner has advised you to. Avoid using harsh soaps or exfoliants. Use a mild bland soap, or any suitable soap free cleansers.

How long will the results last?

As the skin suffers from both the ageing process and sun damage, any peel will last for the duration of the skin renewal cycle (6-8 weeks). The mask peel is an efficient rejuvenation procedure to successfully achieve radiant and refreshed skin regularly. Maintaining a healthy skin routine at home is essential to extend the results as long as possible. Our team will be able to advise you which products can assist you maintaining a clear and healthy skin.

How often should I get a peel?

For best results, the peel should be repeated every 4-6 weeks. This will optimise and regulate the synthesis of your collagen and elastin levels resulting in a significant improvement in skin texture and integrity.

Infection

Infection is a potential risk and you need to be aware of the signs and symptoms so you can contact your healthcare provider immediately.

Signs of Infection can vary but may include:

  1. Increased pain or tenderness: While some discomfort is normal after the procedure, persistent or worsening pain at or around the application site could be a sign of infection.

  2. Swelling: Swelling is common after treatment but if it worsens or becomes increasingly localised, it could indicate an infection.

  3. Redness: Mild redness at the site is normal, but if it spreads beyond the immediate area or becomes more intense, it may indicate an infection.

  4. Heat or warmth: The skin around the injection site may feel warmer than usual, which can be a sign of inflammation or infection.

  5. Pus or discharge: Any discharge or drainage from the injection site, particularly if it is thick, yellow, or green, may indicate an infection.

  6. Fever: A fever is a common sign of infection. If you develop a fever after treatment, especially if accompanied by other symptoms, it's essential to seek medical attention promptly.

  7. Increased swelling or red streaks: If you notice significant increases in swelling or red streaks extending from the injection site, it could indicate an infection spreading through the lymphatic system.

  8. Delayed onset of symptoms: While it's normal to experience some swelling and redness immediately after treatment, if these symptoms worsen or appear several days after the procedure, it could indicate an infection.

If you experience any of these symptoms after treatment, it's crucial to contact your healthcare provider promptly. Infections can be serious and may require medical treatment, including antibiotics or drainage of any abscesses. Early recognition and treatment of an infection can help prevent complications and promote optimal healing.

You must seek emergency medical attention if you experience any severe allergy symptoms after treatment. Symptoms may include rash, facial swelling, and breathing difficulties.

Contact your practitioner as soon as possible if you notice any other unwanted side effects. Your practitioner will advise when further treatment appointments are required.

If you are advised to attend a follow-up appointment, please make every effort to attend them. You should do this even if you believe that the recovery process is going well, and you cannot see that there are any visible complications.
