NeoGen After Weight Loss: Supporting Skin Quality Following Significant Weight Changes
Significant weight loss can bring meaningful changes to your health, confidence and overall well-being, but it can also change the way your face looks and feels. As facial volume decreases, the skin may not always retract at the same rate. You may begin to notice looser skin, increased crepiness, more visible lines or a change in facial definition, particularly around the cheeks, eyes, jawline and neck.
At Future Face Clinics, our approach isn't about trying to replace everything that has been lost. Instead, we look at the face as a whole and ask an important question: How can we improve the quality of the skin itself?

Why Does the Face Change After Weight Loss?
Our face is made up of multiple layers, including skin, fat, muscle, ligaments and bone. Together, these structures create the shape and support of the face.
When significant weight is lost, facial fat may also decrease. This can change the support beneath the skin and make existing age-related changes more noticeable.
You may begin to see:
Increased skin laxity
Crepey or thinner-looking skin
More prominent fine lines
Changes around the eyes
Reduced cheek fullness
Greater definition of folds and shadows
Changes through the jawline and neck
These changes are highly individual. Age, genetics, amount and speed of weight loss, previous sun exposure, skin quality and natural facial anatomy can all influence how the face responds.
It's Not Always About Replacing Volume
When facial volume loss becomes noticeable, it's easy to assume that replacing volume should be the first step.
But volume is only one part of the picture.
If the overlying skin has also become thinner, less elastic or more crepey, simply addressing volume may not address the quality of the tissue itself.
At Future Face Clinics, we assess skin quality alongside facial volume and structure. For some clients, improving the skin first—or incorporating skin remodelling alongside other treatments—can form an important part of creating a balanced, natural-looking treatment plan.
Our philosophy is simple:
Support the skin. Respect the face. Treat what has actually changed.
How Can NeoGen Plasma Support the Skin?
NeoGen is a nitrogen plasma technology designed to create controlled thermal stimulation within the skin.
Unlike a laser, NeoGen converts medical-grade nitrogen gas into plasma energy, which is delivered to the treatment area in controlled pulses.
This thermal response stimulates the skin's natural regenerative processes and encourages collagen and elastin remodelling.
For skin that has changed following significant weight loss, the goal is to improve the quality and resilience of the existing skin rather than artificially replacing what has been lost.
What Can NeoGen Help Improve After Weight Loss?
Depending on your individual presentation and treatment plan, NeoGen may help improve the appearance of:
Skin laxity
Crepey skin
Fine lines and wrinkles
Uneven texture
Thin or fragile-looking skin
Changes around the eyes
Skin quality through the lower face
Neck skin quality
Overall firmness and resilience
Results are progressive because collagen remodelling takes time. Rather than creating an immediate artificial change, the skin gradually responds in the weeks and months following treatment.
Face, Eyes and Neck
Weight loss doesn't affect one isolated area of the face, which is why we often take a broader approach to assessment.
Face
NeoGen can be used across the face to support collagen remodelling and improve overall texture, firmness and skin quality. Particular attention may be given to areas where reduced underlying volume has made skin laxity or crepiness more noticeable.
Eyes
The skin surrounding the eyes is naturally thin and can become increasingly crepey as collagen declines. NeoGen allows us to specifically target the periocular area to support firmer, smoother-looking skin without adding volume.
Neck
Changes in weight can also make laxity and textural changes through the neck more noticeable. Including the neck within a treatment plan allows us to consider the transition between the face and neck rather than treating the face in isolation.
Low Energy or Higher Energy NeoGen?
One of the advantages of NeoGen is that treatment intensity can be tailored.
Lower-energy treatments can be incorporated into progressive skin maintenance and collagen-supporting plans with less recovery.
Higher-energy treatments create a more intensive thermal response and may be considered when greater skin remodelling is required, with a corresponding increase in downtime.
There isn't one NeoGen protocol that's appropriate for everyone. Your treatment intensity, number of sessions and treatment areas are selected following consultation and assessment.
Creating a New Baseline for Your Skin
One of the biggest shifts in the way we approach aesthetic medicine is moving away from the idea that every treatment should create a temporary result that eventually disappears.
With skin-remodelling treatments, we're trying to stimulate biological changes within the skin itself.
NeoGen encourages your own fibroblasts to produce and remodel collagen and elastin. The goal is to support the skin in becoming stronger, firmer and more resilient, effectively creating an improved baseline from which we can continue to maintain your skin.
Your skin will continue to age—that's normal. The goal isn't to stop ageing. It's to support better skin quality throughout that process.
NeoGen as Part of a Bigger Treatment Plan
NeoGen doesn't necessarily need to work alone.
Following significant weight changes, a personalised treatment plan may consider several different aspects of the face, including skin quality, hydration, collagen, facial structure and volume distribution.
Depending on your assessment, NeoGen may be complemented by treatments focused on hydration, skin rejuvenation or other identified concerns.
Professional skincare also plays an important role. Maintaining hydration, supporting the skin barrier, introducing appropriate active ingredients and using daily broad-spectrum SPF can help support your skin between professional treatments.
When Should You Consider Treatment After Weight Loss?
There isn't a universal amount of weight you need to lose before considering skin treatments.
Generally, we want to understand whether your weight is continuing to change, what changes you've noticed in your face and what you would actually like to improve.
If you're still actively losing significant amounts of weight, your facial appearance may continue to change. In some circumstances, waiting until your weight is relatively stable can make it easier to develop an appropriate longer-term treatment strategy.
This is something we can discuss during your consultation.
What Results Should You Expect?
NeoGen is about progressive skin remodelling, not instant transformation.
Some changes in skin texture and appearance may become noticeable relatively early, while collagen and elastin remodelling continues over the following months.
The degree of improvement varies between individuals and depends on factors including baseline skin quality, age, degree of laxity, treatment intensity, number of treatments and lifestyle factors.
For significant loose skin following substantial weight loss, non-surgical treatments also have limitations. NeoGen can improve skin quality and firmness, but it cannot replicate the degree of tissue removal or repositioning achievable with surgery.
An honest consultation is therefore essential.
A Different Conversation About the Post-Weight-Loss Face
You may have heard terms used online to describe facial changes associated with weight loss. At Future Face Clinics, we're less interested in labels and more interested in understanding your individual anatomy and what has actually changed.
You don't need to walk into your consultation knowing which treatment you need.
Instead, tell us:
"My skin feels looser since losing weight."
"I've noticed more crepiness around my eyes."
"My face looks different, but I don't necessarily want to add lots of volume."
"I want to improve my skin quality now that my weight has stabilised."
That's where we start.
NeoGen Plasma at Future Face Clinics
At Future Face Clinics in Birkdale, Redlands Brisbane, NeoGen Plasma forms part of our broader approach to facial remodelling, collagen banking and long-term skin quality.
Our focus isn't on chasing every line or recreating the face you had before weight loss. It's about assessing the skin and facial structures you have now and developing a considered treatment plan around them.
Because after significant change, sometimes the next step isn't adding more.
Sometimes it's about supporting the skin you already have.Intermediate Service
