Your Cosmelan treatment is a professional depigmentation program designed to correct pigmentation at its source and regulate melanin activity over time. Correct aftercare is essential to achieve the best possible results and to minimise the risk of rebound pigmentation.
This aftercare advice is essential to help reduce the risk of treatment complications, improve your comfort, and help achieve the best possible results from treatment.
Immediately After Your Treatment
After your in-clinic Cosmelan Peel, it is normal for the skin to feel warm, tight, or flushed, and mild swelling may occur. You will leave the clinic with the Cosmelan mask applied to your skin. You should leave the mask on your face for 8-10 hours, or as instructed from your nurse providing your treatment to you. We know it will be tempting to leave on for longer, with the mindset that longer means it will work better. This is not the case, please ensure you remove the mask as instructed.
Removing the Cosmelan Mask at Home
At the advised time, begin by washing your hands thoroughly. Gently remove the mask using lukewarm water and a mild, non-active cleanser only. Avoid scrubbing or using hot water. Once the mask is removed, pat the skin dry and apply Melan Recovery as instructed. Redness, sensitivity, and a feeling of heat in the skin after removal are all normal and expected responses.
Cosmelan Home Pack
Cosmelan is not just an in-clinic peel, it is a treatment program. The take-home products play a vital role in suppressing excess pigment production and maintaining your results. Skipping products, reducing frequency without guidance, or stopping early can significantly compromise outcomes.
Cosmelan Peel Aftercare.
The First Few Days Post-Treatment
During the first 48 to 72 hours, your skin may feel tight, itchy, sensitive, or appear red. These sensations are part of the skin’s natural response to the treatment. During this time, keep the skin well hydrated by applying Melan Recovery regularly and use only the products recommended by your nurse. Avoid heat, sweating, strenuous exercise, and makeup for the first couple of days. Active skincare products such as retinol, exfoliating acids, and vitamin C should not be used.
If you experience increased sensitivity, redness, or discomfort at any stage, please contact the clinic before making changes to your routine.
The home care phase of your Cosmelan treatment is essential for regulating melanin activity, supporting skin recovery, and maintaining long-term results. Correct order of application and timing is critical to your results.
First 7 Days Post Peel
For the first 7 days following your Cosmelan Peel, Melan Recovery is the ONLY treatment product to be applied to the skin.
During this time:
Do not use Cosmelan 2.
Do not use actives (retinol, acids, vitamin C).
Focus purely on barrier repair and calming the skin.
The only products used during this phase are:
Gentle cleanser recommended by your nurse.
Melan Recovery.
After Day 7 – Introducing Cosmelan 2
Once your skin has recovered sufficiently and only when advised by your nurse, Cosmelan 2 can be introduced into your routine. This product plays a key role in long-term pigmentation correction and prevention.
Review the table below for when to use each product in the Cosmelan Home Pack.
If A Final Reminder
Cosmelan is a corrective program, not a single treatment. Strict adherence to aftercare, correct product order, and sun protection are essential for achieving and maintaining results.
It is important that you use only approved products as part of your skin care routine, and speak with your nurse about specific products that you would like to introduce into your routine.
It is important to attend all of your post treatment appointments to ensure your LED treatments are consistent and you are getting the full benefit of the ongoing LED therapy.
If you are experiencing any adverse symptoms, please contact your treating doctor and clinic immediately.
